I think we were having a fruitful discussion of the relationship between forms, tradition, community, ect. before the conversation degenerated.
I think these are fruitful areas for continued discussion. If it is impolitic to discuss these matters concretely on the basis of the Psalm revisions let us look at the matter more abstractly. Drew raised a good point about Bible translations. Has the explosion of ...

What delicious irony … traditionalists squelched by clerical heavy-handedness in favor of modernizing language … where’s the priesthood of all believers when you need it? The wheels on the bus go round and round …
I say we go back to Latin scriptures AND priesthood of all believers rather than gutter English and the priesthood of clerics.
Set the bar high and let anyone in who can reach it! This ...

I have been asked by my ecclesiastical betters to stop making or allowing posts about the Psalm Revision committee’s work. This is an ecclesiastically controlled blog and now do my duty- no more on Psalm Revision.
Rather, I have been told to make sure comments- positive and negative- go to the Psalm Revision Committee. The committee is chaired by Pastor Brian Coombs Messiah’s Church in North Syracuse.

The SC just released its opinion on the District of Columbia v. Heller on the question of whether the right to bear arms is an individual right within the context of the 2nd Amendment.
Justice Scalia wrote the majority opinion. This is a truly exciting and historic day. I am waiting for the release of the opinion.

Don’t call ‘em foreigners, aliens, or outsiders. The committee formerly known as the Foreign Mission Board will now be titled RP Global Missions… at least until we prove life on Mars. RP Intergalactic Missions is not far off.
BTW does anyone vet this stuff based on appeal to RP demographics? When I think of the word global I think rootless, Obama, left-leaning universalism, globalism, ...

The Synod adopted the 2008 Report of the RPCNA’s Synod Study Committee to Read and Evaluate Reports and Response of Fraternal (and other) Reformed Denominations and Institutions Concerning the “Justification Controversy.” What a handle!
I am wondering what it will mean for the RPCNA? What exactly are the “theological views that are generally associated with the movements identified as ‘the New Perspective(s) on Paul’ and ‘The Federal ...

Rev. David Reese shepherded a committee report on the “Justification Controversy” through the Synod.
Here are the recommendations as adopted by the Synod:
1. That Synod DECLARE that we stand in solidarity with our Reformed and Presbyterian brethren in rejecting as contrary to the Scriptures as summarized by our confessional standards the theological views that are generally associated with the movements identified as “the New Perspective(s) on Paul” and ...

We are battling it out at the 177th Synod of the RPCNA. The bullets were flying yesterday as the Synod approved (although it has yet to fund) a new “thoroughly modern Psalter.” I would like to say that the Synod reviewed the new Psalter and loved it but we are going by a small sampling and trust in the committee. Next year we should have ...

Last night my family and I were out and about getting Conservative Party candidate designating petitions signed in the Town of Walworth. We do it as a family affair with hopes that we are teaching our children about civic duty and American democracy. It is the second year we have done the work and we are learning some lessons ourselves.
First, it is a pleasure to get ...

Ron Paul’s presidential campaign has come to an end but the Revolution moves forward. Paul has founded a new organization called Campaign For Liberty.
From the website:
The mission of the Campaign for Liberty is to promote and defend the great American principles of individual liberty, constitutional government, sound money, free markets, and a noninterventionist foreign policy, by means of educational and political activity.
The Campaign for ...
